Several of you have asked if the empty ink cartridge project is still alive – if Heart Connection still needs them. I checked with Past Governor Bob and he says, "Yes it is."
Instructions on what to do with your empty ink cartridge are at the end of this message.
Why do this for Heart Connection? Because they help kids. They help kids who have cancer or the siblings of kids who have cancer. As they put it, "We strive to give these children a little piece of the world they long for. The Heart Connection is Iowa's only nonprofit organization providing two 1-week summer camps free of charge – one for children with cancer and one for their siblings." They also counsel with families of children with cancer.
Most of the old ink cartridges that you would otherwise throw away are worth $2 or more. The cost of camp for a child is about $250.
Thanks for what you can do to help this project.
Ray Ward, District Governor
Hi there! My name is Katie Albrecht. I am a Development Specialist for The Heart Connection and I work with the ink cartridge program. What we generally have people do is ship or mail them to us and then we can reimburse them for the postage. Some tell us to keep the money for the postage and consider it a donation.
You can ship or mail them to 1221 Center St. Suite 12, Des Moines, IA 50309. If you have any questions, you can reach me by phone at 515-243-6239 ext. 5 or by e-mail at katie@childrenscancerprograms.com.
Thank you for your interest in supporting our organization. We appreciate it,
Katie Albrecht
