The
Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis District Foundation Projects
Child Lures Prevention
The Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis
District Foundation is pleased to announce their partnership with Child Lures
Prevention. The founder, Ken
Wooden, was a 20/20 correspondent and interviewed many molesters, murderers and
kidnappers.
Through his research,
he found 18 major “lures” that tempted children and adults from their safety
zones.
Ken created a program to be
taught to students from Kindergarten through 12th grade to keep them
safe. It has 18 chapters, which
take approximately 15 minutes per week to cover.
The topics vary from self esteem issues, to helping find a lost puppy,
internet safety and weapons in school.
Clubs are encouraged to contact their Division Trustee for a kit to present to the club. When the club decides to endorse this program, they need to go to the school (usually the principal—but if you have a sponsored youth association, ask that individual) and present the program. Numerous schools internationally have implemented this program.
The components of the
program are the presenter’s guide with a DVD (show this to the club); a DVD
for the students to view (very short); a power point presentation which is
generally used for a “Parent Night” to let them know the program’s
content, and finally, a Parent Guide.
The Parent Guide is a great tool to be used in your community. It has the Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis District information on the cover and inside front cover. The back cover has important numbers for Nebraska and Iowa.
The cost of the kit is $300
which includes 100 Parent Guides. Additional
Guides are $1.50 each.
Please print the appropriate
grant application for your state. Complete
the form, send form, the check to the address indicated and the kit and parent
guides will be shipped to the club within 2 weeks.
You will be amazed at how
encompassing this program is.
