Want a Kiwanis job? |
People who want to help build new clubs. This includes K-Kids, Builders, Key, Circle K, Aktion and Kiwanis Clubs. This can be a lot more fun and rewarding than most Kiwanians think.
You (or someone you know) can help “scout out” a town, for example, to see if Kiwanis is needed there. You can meet the people and help them become excited about Kiwanis service. Notice that I use the word “help.” You won’t have to do it alone. You will have guidelines and people to work with you.
We would like to have at least 2 dozen of these people scattered around our district who can be called on whenever there is a club in an area ready to be built. Two or three times that many would be even better.
If you want to do this or know someone who would be good at it, click on my e-mail address below and send the names, phone numbers and/or e-mail addresses to me.
People who want to search out organizations who work with children and youth. We want to build a list of as many of these as we can. With names of the organization or group, a contact person, phone number and e-mail address, clubs will have a ready-made list of contacts for club programs and places to go to do what we do best – Service!
These people – hopefully at least one in every division – can do the job if they are simply armed with a telephone book. Of course, a telephone, computer and some extra “contacts” will help them do the job even better.

People who want to work with existing clubs to help them become bigger and better.
At last count, there were more than 40 Kiwanis Clubs in our district that have fewer than 20 members. That number is more than 20% of our clubs. While I will never say a club that is small in numbers isn’t a good club, I will say that it probably can be better with more members. Those clubs will do a lot more service work when they are bigger simply because they won’t experience as much “burnout.”
These people will become part of a team that spends time in the community helping the small club grow into a bigger one. Imagine being part of a team that revives a club and sees it prosper. We want clubs to thrive, not just survive.
We will also make sure these people have the information, guidelines and tools they need to do this job.

Who are the people who ought to be members of the Nebraska-Iowa District committees? I need names of people who would be good committee members – not the chairperson, but a member this year (most chairs have been named).
Too often, our district committees have been made up of only a chairperson, no members. I want members, too. I want people who will stretch their imaginations and do some new things.
Committees include Achievement, Administration, Children’s Miracle Network, Community Service, District Convention, Midyear Conference, Education and Club Development, Finance and Fund Raising, Human and Spiritual Values, Laws and Regulations, Public Relations (including the district newsletter and website), Membership Growth, New Club Building, On to International Convention (Hawaii is next, then Rome), Resolutions, Risk Management, Special Olympics, Top Progress Award, James Gaul Education Award, Young Children: Priority One and Youth Services. Plus, there are the Sponsored Youth programs of K-Kids, Builders Clubs, Key Clubs and Circle K. And, we have Aktion Clubs. We can use more people working with all of these.
